With Charlie mended and Child Protective Services nowhere to be seen, we can resume to one of Charlie's favourite aquatic activities: His Dad throwing him into the stratosphere and hoping each time he has the skill and coordination to catch him safely. And each time I catch him, he squeals "Again! Again! Again!" and opens his palm in front of me and underlines his point with "Five times, Daddy!" And I'll do it until my aging back and arms tell me it's time to stop because I love it almost as much as he does. You may be wondering where Schuyler is all this time. Well, Schuyler has become the Little Mermaid and will happily spend all week underwater collecting the rings we've thrown from the bottom of the pool. I remember that. I remember being so present in the moment of scooping up pool toys from the bottom and frankly I get a little jealous of her zen-like zeal. So during our swims, I'll "accidentally" throw some of the rings in the deep end so Daddy has to fetch them and, under the water, weightless and refreshed, I find that childhood again.
