With our move we have upgraded Charlie to a toddler bed. One of our friends asked where we had gotten it because of its unique finish; she thought it was one of those shabby chic looks. Nope, just shabby. Charlie adored it from first glance. "My bed. Charlie bed. My room. Charlie room."

new house, new bed

farewell castle cottage/kookaburra
Seeing this makes me sad. We're leaving the house where my kids were born and grew up. It's all they've ever known. And before we leave, Mr Beek will paint over the marks a family leaves on a home, including the notches of their height outside the kitchen. It's sad but it is a good and necessary new beginning. Farewell, Kookaburra.

ta da!
I took this because it kind of shocked me - not just that my two year old had managed to build something so tall without instantly destroying it, but also because this was such a shocking echo of a famous (to us) photo of my twin, Uncle Will, who had built a tower of blocks and stood beside it in almost exactly the same way. It helps that Charlie has blond hair with a 1970's cut that matches Uncle Will's 'do of the photo. So I sent this to Kim and Wardy Baby. Their reply? Uncle Will had just sent them a picture of Hugo in the exact same post with a tower he had built. [insert eerie music] Maybe there is something to this twin thing.

good night good times
fuel up and move out
under the sea
Atlantis has many things you probably won't find elsewhere but most impressive among them is the seemingly endless aquariums and pools of exotic fish you would never get close to in a place with American-style tort law. Where else would you (and your offspring) get to see manta rays glide through faux ruins or see a couple of hammerhead sharks in a lagoon with no fences to impede your view.
