mummy phone

Charlie is obsessed with Mummy's phone.  Not just any phone Mummy has.  No, sir.  He is insistent that he gets "Mummy's iPhone"... man, that branding is strong!

It was a lovely day in November and a long weekend... which is VERY long when you have kids.  Fortunately, Mere & Co were still in town so we all convened on Somersfield playground to get our money's worth from the school :-)
Where else can you be outside in a t-shirt in November?

I thought this was a dog...

... But apparently it is a ladder for people to get on airplanes... interesting how their minds work and the prejudices we have about the subjects that interest them... of COURSE it's a ladder to get on airplanes!  Duh!

west end adventure

Where else would you see a sign like this? (we think they were horses but difficult to see...)

We were invited to an engagement party for Zikomo and Amanda... in Somerset.  Now, for those of you that don't know where that is, join the club.  For decades, I thought Somerset was a parish but it is actually the town in the far western reaches of the island and, generally speaking, if you live in one end of the island, you probably (sadly) don't make it to the other end very often (it's a whole hour's drive away!).  There's something about this island that makes distance all relative.  In London, I would commute an hour each way every day.  I would travel an hour each way just to have dinner with a friend.  But going to Somerset feels like I need my passport and traveller's cheques.  But it was actually great.  And who knew there were sheep in Bermuda?

picnics

Charlie and Schuyler inspired us.  A picnic for lunch, sir!

A picnic outside should probably not involve the combination of toddlers and jam... and ants.  But still, a lot of fun just right outside in our new yard.

Charlie surveys his kingdom...

...and gets friction burns.

saturday stroll

This was a great idea.  Liz and I used to take walks in Ferry Point Park with Magic every weekend and loved it.  It's one of the few places in Bermuda where you can go and see almost no evidence of humans outside of the age old fort that guards the straits leading into Castle Harbour.  Liz took Magic off for an adult paced walk down the old railway trail and I took the kids.  Initially, I thought we would just kick a ball around until Liz got back but the kids were game.  They set off with purpose down the railway trail on a day speckled with sunlight and rimmed with bushes and trees and eye-level cacti.  A few trips, falls, and skinned knees later, they were unbowed and probably walked a good mile or so on their own which was frankly a little farther than their father was intending given his own wilting muscles.  This is what days in Bermuda are meant for and we're so lucky to have such peace and beauty so close by.
