We packed all these little toys for Charlie to keep him occupied when it turns out all he needed was the pink Gate Check tag.

baby mum mum
I realised something was wrong with me when I actually got a little mad at your mum for giving you a baby biscuit without me there to witness. I just don't want to miss out on your life. You don't know it but this is actually one of the good parts of life. Nobody expects anything from you except for you to grow bigger and bite stuff. When you are older these goals are actually seen as a bad thing so enjoy them while you can.
meanwhile... back at the ranch
So while his Papa was busy flunking his exam, Charlie was busy doing the stuff that babies do when they are chronically neglected by their fathers: They learn to play by themselves while under the constant flashbulbs of the Mama Paparazzi. When I came out of the exam, one of my first thoughts (besides "wow, that was like my whole head was teething") was how excited I was to be a full on Dad again. I'd been studying mainly in the evenings and nap times but over the last month, I took more and more time away from everyone. Schuyler barely noticed I was gone since she spent a great deal of time with Kim and Wardie Baby. But i'd like to think Charlie took a moment out from processing absolutely everthing around him to think "I wonder where that guy is?" I can't wait to (a) not have to study for a couple of months and (b) get to know this new boy and spend some time as a family.

the tooth, the whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth
Since he was... oh... about six weeks old, people have been telling us Charlie is teething. This assertion is usually made based on the Niagra Falls of dribble which streams from his mouth on a continuous basis causing extra precautions such as a plastic bib even when not eating. Anyway, it hasn't been true... until now. Punching its way through his gum like a slow motion enamel bullet, Charlie's first tooth has barely arrived. The poor little dude is a little more uncomfortable than usually and waking up a bit more (can you blame him?) but he's coping well. His parents, however, are another story. Sure the increased sleep deprivation is a problem but nothing compared to the existential crisis that comes from your final child reaching even the most basic of milestones. You can grow up all you want, Charlie. Just make sure we're growing up at the same speed.

baby biscuits
Charlie had his first teething biscuit tonight; he was quite taken with it and worked on it steadily for over 15 minutes. No sign of any teeth yet though...just the usual copious amount of drool. Of course Schuyler had to have a baby biscuit too.

nice to meet you!
Charlie got to meet his maternal grandmother this week in the obviously ample (see photos!) flesh. He shows off his posing skills for her new camera.

simple saturday
The usual Saturday delights of feeding the fish (think they are tired of stale bread yet?) and playing with an iGadget.

wheeeee
Our budding gymnast cannot get enough of the playground. So much so that she tries to recreate it in our bathroom at home. She swings from the towel rack like she is training for a flying trapeze act. Perhaps she takes after her Aunt Lisa and will join a circus in a couple of years.
Charlie is content for now to glide high in the baby swing.
