The Adventures of Schuyler and Charlie

one door closes, another opens

It happened. It finally happened. A moment that, for any harried parent, is the equivalent to a moon landing or dogs doing calculus: Charlie slept through the night. When this happens and you awaken with that unfamiliar feeling of more than six hours of straight sleep, the joy is slapped down by panic. You look on the video monitor to see him practically face down on the bed. You run in and touch his skin (warm!) and then rub his back to see if something will move of its own accord. Of course, you give him only a nanosecond to respond before you practically shake him like a doggy chew toy and he awakens from his first 12 hour sleep with a panicked giant throwing him around the crib. Great incentive, Dad.

Of course, no first night of full sleep would be complete without the other child spoiling it. Yes, Schuyler, our sleep mutant decided that after probably six months of perfect 12 hour sleeps, she is going to choose tonight to have a backed up number two that must be evacuated several times throughout the night. Poor thing.

Let's hope this thing takes. Nice work, my son. Bravo.
