this sucky baby

So the early weeks of Charlie were about sucking. Due to his bad tongue tie, he couldn't get what he needed out of his meals so he ate constantly but didn't gain weight. Because he was never satisfied, he would never settle unless there was something to suck on (and he didn't care for pacifiers - even though we were suddenly fine with leapfrogging into the pacifier stage to get some sleep). We often slept with a finger in his mouth so he could do, as the doc called it, some "non-nutritive sucking" and chill out. The tongue tie release op is quick and simple and routine for this kind of problem in the USA and elsewhere but there are only two ENT's here and only one operates. The other one didn't believe it was the cause of the problem. So, for now, we are the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dam holding back the river of tears which flow when said finger is removed. Fun.
