Daddy Day Care 2

While the women folk were enduring the harsh winters of Boston, the Bermuda based men folk used their hunting skills to herd all the offspring into a purpose built pen where they thrived and, mostly, kept out of trouble.

daddy day care 1

While her mum enjoys a very well deserved weekend in Boston with Carolyn and Meaghan, her dad toughs it out at the farmer's market and singing and story time at the children's library (thanks to Alex and Priscilia). We had a surprisingly good time together despite the anguish of teething. Of course, a little help from friends went a long way to relieving any issues.

the pooh kay corral

As you can see, despite constant supervision from Schuyler in her second hand exer-saucer, her Dad still managed to concentrate so much on avoiding contiguous colours that he left the 6 next to the 9 and left one upside down so we are close to the mark of the beast. Gives new meaning to the Bermudian expression "Don't give me a 6 for a 9".

From one baby jail to another, the corral is a great way to delay baby proofing the house. Schuyler is happy in it so long as someone is in there will her. If you get up to do something as frivolous as use the bathroom, she gets a little antsy. But you put a bunch of kids in there with her and she is happy as Larry... assuming that Larry is happy when drooling on himself, wetting his pants and having a chunk of enamel erupt from his gums while drinking the same drink at every meal.

the tooth and nothing but the tooth

[Above] we tried to mark the spot with an x but it just kind of looks like she has a piece of pepper on her gums.
Schuyler has new found appreciation for her teething biscuits (and it doesn't hurt that these ones are flavoured with maple for that touch of Vermont). She's pretty good about it actually. No more fussing than usual... except when her mom and dad try to shine a flashlight in her mouth and poke their big fingers around her gums feeling around for the tooth like she's some lab experiment. You should see the pictures from those moments. We'll keep them hidden lest the authorities enquire about abuse.

bye bye gummy bear

the teeth are coming! or, at least, a tooth is coming...
OK. So we've been thinking that our little cub has been teething for about 8 out of her 9 months on the planet but today she (finally) proved us right. I never thought i'd be so excited about a tooth but it just one of those small moments that reminds you that there is a script for this little human body and we're forever moving on to the next scene - read or not. I also never thought i would be sad that she was getting teeth but there's a part of us that will miss that gummy smile a lot. That gummy smile has gotten us through some tough days. I'm sure a cute little cartoon smile with a couple of teeth is pretty cute too.

no pressure

Although initially coaxed (read: forced) into a quasi-embrace early on, Theo took matters into his own hands and gave Schuyler her first hug from someone her own size.

ginger men

In the ongoing tug of war on Schuyler's heart, Theo got extra points today for being the first man to woo Schuyler with his flashy car. The "car" in this case was a green and blond wooden push trolley but Schuyler was intrigued nonetheless.

tasty treat

It almost looks like French toast sticks but is actually some dried out fake toast that (for reasons unknown) actually contains high fructose corn syrup. I don't understand baby food yet. I don't understand why anyone would puree "macaroni and cheese" and sell it in jars. But i do understand that this new stage where she is (slowly) creeping into the self-feeding realm is pretty exciting for all three of us. It's like watching a dog walk on it's hind feet.

You brought the Pomeranian bowling?

Schuyler and her parents light up Southside bowling lanes to celebrate Schuyler's first cousin once removed Chase's birthday. She loved it. She wanted to touch everything. We wanted her to touch nothing. No amount of Purell is enough to protect yourself from the horrors of a bowling lane on a former U.S. Naval Air Station.

breakfast & shopping

Another breathtakingly exciting saturday morning in the lives of Schuyler's parents as they treat themselves to breakfast in the bright lights of the big city followed by shopping for baby gates for their mobile offspring in the scenic aisles of Gorham's hardware store.
