heading to the wedding

So we almost didn't make it to Lucy's wedding where Schuyler was a flower girl.  Schuyler was still pretty darn sick from the Somersfield Plague and Papa was a right mess right up until we got in the car.  He took a lot of medication and caffeine and soldiered through.  She, well, she just soldiered through because, hey, that's the kind of girl she is and it's Lucy's wedding, darnit!

The wedding was on Paget Island in St. George's Harbour and just a lovely setting and venue as you shall see in subsequent posts.

Somersfield plague

Sky munching on some goodies at Papa's office.

Yum!  Doughnut holes!

Sky getting checked out at LFUCC (again!)

And so begins the flu

When we fall ill, we often tell people we "have the flu".  Whenever I get sick in the Winter or Spring, Liz will admonish me for not getting a flu shot.  Usually, we just have a nasty cold.  But not this time.  This time it was the real deal H1 influenza!  Oh joy!  Schuyler was patient zero (here we are at the doc's office for the first of several visits), no doubt infected by that petri dish we call her school.   Then Papa got it.  Then Mama.  Then Charlie.  All a couple of fateful days apart.  This thing was miserable.  Laid up in bed with fever, pain, nausea, and all the fun sideline of each of those for two days of torpor.  This was the kind of illness that you recover from an ten days later you still feel like you wouldn't normally go to work feeling like this but you feel so much better than the beginning.  Anyway, we were kind of taken out of commission and in and out of work as one of the parents and/or the kids was knocked out for yet another day.

Serious baby care

These two have the countenance of weary parents doing the 3am feed.  There's determination in those eyes mixed with resignation and fatigue.  But this is one of those rare bonding activities that Schuyler allows with Charlie so we just sit back and watch the show.

Carriage in the sky

So the Meet A Mum Association had a fair that was specifically geared toward under 5's which was pretty rare and pretty cool.  This was the day after my exam (where I performed woefully on time and, as noted, likely failed - it's healthy, kids!) so I tried to give Mama the day off since she had spent several weekends On Duty.  If only she had had a fair like this to go to.  There were tracks set up for big wheels and toddler bikes, a story telling tent with songs, painting, and, as above, a miniature ferris wheel.  Well, I didn't know if the kids would be into it or terrified but they gamely climbed aboard.  Since it was all included in the entrance fee, you could stay on until you wanted to get off (which was psychologically interesting since one of the reasons we enjoy these things is because we know our time to enjoy it is limited).  The kids stayed on for a good ten minutes.  They Schuyler wanted out.  But little Charlie stayed in his carriage with some stranger.  Throughout the afternoon, they both returned over and over again to the big wheel in the sky.  All in all, a great afternoon.

Charlie realises he is not really helping so he rides off into the sunset

I realise he doesn't look happy here but he shrieked with displeasure every time I tried to take him off.
