happy birthday schuyler bear!
Schuyler at 2 hours. All the cliches are true. Time really does speed past you. Somewhere in the past year, raising this kid changed from being a chore to being a lot of fun. Schuyler, you seem like a very happy kid. You're a bit stubborn (i'm not sure where you get that from!) but it also means you're good at knowing what you want. You're funny. You're a bit of a ham (a 'public persona' as your Grandpa says) which i kind of like. You get shy when you arrive somewhere with lots of new people. But you find your feet quickly and join in the fun. You seem pretty smart (but every parent thinks their kid is a genius). You have an infectious curiousity and help us not to sweat the small stuff in life. You have a smile that could power a village. We love you so much we decided to make you a buddy. Happy birthday, little bear.

Let them eat...
...more.... cake... please?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!fortunately, the new kitchen got her spirits up again.
playdate party
nuff said! THANK YOU, LUCY!
A Lucy-organized birthday party for Schuyler and her buddies. When her neglectful parents are not there to raise her, it is so nice to know she is in such good, loving hands.

the birthday present
While Papa was away in London on a training course to try and get a promotion to pay for Schuyler's college tuition, Mama put her skills to work at doing the traditionally Daddy job of assembling the Big Toy! Nice job, mama! Schuyler loves her kitchen. To avoid stereotyping, we have also bought her a power drill.

the return of Kim & Ward
Some of Schuyler's favourite Bermuda residents have returned! And, with them, access to the car keys.
a stroll in the park
believe it or not, she is actually really happy in this shot and refused to leave the stroller at the end of the walk in Ferry Point Park...
until this moment when she decided that walking was the only way to experience the railway trail...

the big sis
Cousin Dexter sent us this book to prepare young Schuyler for the impending siblinghood. I think she's going to like the new addition because this book is a hit. Again. And again. And again.
[NB. the title is not a hint! unless the Great Spirit is trying to tell us something?]

doing dishes
Schuyler is finally of an age where she can be put to work. Child labour laws are for the weak. If Asian children can sew sneakers, we can at least get Schuyler to help with the dishes. And, strangely, she loves it.

the newest jedi?
Maybe it is the constant fatherly neglect. Maybe it is an attachment to men's clothing. Maybe this is her jedi look. Whatever it is, Schuyler digs wearing papa's shirt and mama's shoes (although, not together which makes me reconsider her sense of humour).

child care
Schuyler is serious about her child care. She loves babies and gets very excited to see them or hear them - she will point out "baby is crying" when we hear an unhappy infant. Hmmm, let's hope she still feels this way in 5 months.

hello?
With Daddy and Grandma both having recently left on "aihpanes" Schuyler has no choice but to make a lot of phone calls...complete with gibberish talk and manufactured laughter.

the diaper bag
Schuyler and Grandma practice diaper changing. Unfortunately Schuyler has extended that knowledge to her own diaper.

live-in babysitter
Grandma Tobe is looking after her youngest grandchild this week. Schuyler has been having a fantastic time. In the mornings the first word out of Schuyler's mouth is: "Granma?" We reassure her that Grandma will be back on duty after breakfast. Above, Schuyler reads her new book from Grandma Tobe to her dad.
working around the house
Who needs to "do-it-yourself" when you can get your toddler to do it for you? Schuyler is in that helpful phase where she wants to help you do everything. Unfortunately her laundry folding leaves a lot to be desired and we've yet to find a child-sized broom.

safety first
Who needs all these expensive toys when simply removing the car seat from the car and lodging it in your living room will provide all the pleasure a young Schuyler needs.
