Chase and Carolyn hosted this year complete with boules, ping pong, big bushy fully decorated tree and a great spread of food. Thank you! Sorry we're missing half the gang in these. I'll post more but we're off to VT tomorrow for JY's first (hopefully) white christmas.

cousin's christmas

asleep at the wheel
clap clap clap
The day after the "Christmas Concert", Schuyler came home with a new skill. We don't know how she picked it up - maybe she saw the audience applaud or maybe they have been drilling this into her for months down at Baby Jail - who know? In any case, she can now slap her hands pretty much together in a vague, uncoordinated clapping motion. It is difficult to tell whether she understands our request "clap clap clap" yet or whether she is just trying it out all the time and we happen to be saying "clap clap clap" a lot... in any case, we believe she knows exactly what we are saying. We also believe she knows trigonometry.

Now and then...part 3

A year ago when we saw that wriggly little thing on the ultrasound we knew intellectually what was ahead for us but emotionally we couldn't have prepared for the strange, beautiful, tiring, amazing, frustrating and lovely road ahead. A year ago, Schuyler was taking one nine month long bath on the inside of her Mommy. Now, they can share the fun.

batman smells, robin laid an egg
So Baby Jail has a Christmas Concert every year. This included a day of rehearsal where we had to drop Schuyler off with a car seat at a church hall (i'm pretty sure we dropped her off at the right one, however, there are a lot of churches here so who knows.. we did get her back though). We were pretty cheesed off about this because we wondered what kind of rehearsing you can do with babies who can barely sit up without assistance and who have a nasty habit of pooing their pants. We weren't even going to go but we were in town to get Schuyler's flu shot before we left for the great white north and we had some other stuff to do so we popped in. I'm really glad we did. If you are wondering what babies can be 'trained' to do at this age, it turns out they will shake almost anything you put in their hands which, if the thing turns out to be bells and you play Christmas music in the background and arrange them all on stage in costume, turns out to be pretty darn cute.

Sleepy Bear
We couldn't resist her cute, snuggly self. She rolls around her crib clutching her little puppy blanket, sometimes gumming its ears. Like many new parents we often find ourselves fascinated by our bear cub...especially in hibernation mode.

7 whole months
Schuyler endured the rigours of her 7 month check up with curiosity and aplomb. She didn't mind Dr. West listening to her chest (i believe what he heard through the stethascope was "feed me"). Dr. West said that she was 27" for height and 18lbs 13oz and that she obviously underfed and that we should do more to fatten her up. Apparently for Bermuda standards, she is underweight by about 55 lbs. He recommended a vat of Crisco lard per day until she achieves her ideal weight.

i know what i want... and how to get it
If Schuyler were aware of the calendar and the way we measure time, i bet she would want to wish her papa ward a happy 70th birthday even though he is upside down right now in Australia. She sure is lucky to know that dude.

Little Drummer Girl
She bangs the drums... well, she plays the spoons. To occupy her milk and rice cereal addled mind while i washed her dishes, we gave her a selection of spoons. This went down surprisingly well and the spoons are now competing with "plastic measuring cups" for the title of favourite toy.

yet another bathtime
This little girl sure does like water... which is a good thing when you are born on an island six hundred miles away from the nearest land mass.
