more weekend swimming

Yes, we're back in the water! It is too hot to do much else this time of year (especially if you are, um, carrying some extra weight). Schuyler enjoys the pool as Hurricane Danielle's surf has made the ocean too rough.

those Sunday morning pancakes

Because Schuyler's dad had to purchase the industrial size pancake mix, Sunday morning pancakes have become something of a tradition. Schuyler knows that the pancakes are a "special treat" and will tell you so.

les artistes

Under the strict tutelage of Art Director Lucy O'Brien, Schuyler and colleague, Trystan, begin the first of many "paintings with sole" ($19,999 - shipping and handling not included).

Kicking back at their bohemian artist colony, Schuyler sketches a portrait of entitled "Trystan eating da dinner". It has a certain, je ne sais quoi and the chiascoro is remarkable given the medium was "magnetic drawing toy".

the big girl's room

Schuyler graduated to the Big Girl bed after test driving the Big Girl bed at Kim and Ward's... she's pretty good at transitions, this girl, and took to it really well. She stays in the bed throughout the night and yells out for us when it is "time to get up". She has had an annoying new habit of waking up just before 6am (instead of having a "big sleep") but she lets her dad occasionally have a "small sleep" of about 5 minutes while we hang out in her bed (she makes sure that Daddy has a doudou as well).

swimmin'

We are very lucky to know people who have a pool and also kind of like having us around. In this case, Kim and Ward are the fine people with the pool. Most summer Saturdays, we'll end up in their pool before we all head out to Rusticos for lunch. Schuyler absolutely loves swimming. She also seems to love drowning since she refuses any flotation device. Gives me a new understanding of 'sink or swim'.

flipping out over puzzles

Schuyler puzzles for our new Flip camera... we were hoping to capture the breathtaking speed with which she can solve her puzzles but, alas, this was not to be... in fact, this may be one of those videos that is only interesting to her parents. :-)

the big girl bed

Schuyler's transition to the Big Girl Bed has been relatively painless. Her mama wrapped up the sheets and pillow as a present which made the transition exciting and she seems to really dig it. She mostly stays in it but sometimes, if we leave her too long, we'll find her at the door waiting for us.

iPad

By the time Schuyler is able to read this, the iPad will probably seem as cutting edge as a gramophone but, for now, it is the single best entertainment device for kids (and adults who behave like kids)... it can be a drawing tool, a movie/photo display, a music machine, a children's book... pretty much anything. We have one at home but we haven't unleashed it on her yet. Ward could barely escape the constant call of "see babies on YouTube" and i don't know if i'm ready to enable the iPad addiction yet. But maybe on our next flight.
