Schuyler demonstrates her knowledge of baby care with La Poupee

Tea time with kim (and Ms. La Poupee)

Kim is the only one in our family able to actually sit in the baby chair and (a) fit in it and (b) not cause it to collapse. And Schuyler loves her Kim for it.

A bear's best friend

Schuyler and Magic were both entertained by the arrival of Mack (Magic's half brother) who arrived with his handlers, Jerry and Kathleen as well as Craig (whose innate love of dogs is apparent here) for some lunch on the porch. Schuyler apparently thought Mack was thirsty.

the doll - hint hint

OK, Schuyler! We get the hint! We see you caring for your doll. We see you put her in the car seat, feed her, give her water, put her shoes on, try to shower her! We get it. You want a little sibling. Well, if you can pay for the his/her college tuition, we'll get right on it. Until then, you'll have to be satisfied with La Poupée.

So she was desperate to wear her blue and white striped dress and both father and child learned a little more about compromise with this dress choice.

Suddenly and without warning, our little bear grew up a little bit more: she very suddenly took an interest in Poupee (her doll) and started simulating caring for it by ensuring it was strapped into the feeding chair, sharing her own cracker with Poupee, and watering her. Strange to watch it all happen so suddenly and to know how much she understands and how much she is paying attention. Better watch our behaviour. No more drinking in the morning.

Our ritual every night: dinner, play, bath, reading with some milk and then bed time. Every night I sigh when it is my turn because I keep thinking about all the other stuff i have to do but as soon as it is my daughter and i and some books, i'm sucked into the cuteness vortex. So we'll go through La Vie Des Bebes, Goodnight Moon, All Asleep among others and she'll point out the car ("kah!") and the train ("choo choo!") and hold up her feet when we point to someone's feet and clap when the boy in the book does. My favourite part is in La Vie Des Bebes when July fait un calin a sa mama (gives his mother a hug) because Schuyler will invariably do the same to her reading companion. And the world is good.
